Glenafric Trail Ride

Sunday 23rd October 2011

Arrived at 9am, 8 degrees and cloudy but looking good for the day.

Signed in, got my gear on and off around the main track 38 kms approx, some creek crossings and hill climbs on wet muddy slopes, a few riders found out that those dodgy tyres will let you down at the wrong time, lots of entertainment watching and a good test of your riding skills.

Rode to the edge of the cliffs and took some good pics of the beach area, very nice, sun had come out by now and nice and warm.

Lots more gully rides, steep descents and hill climbs out and the odd long paddock stint to blow the spiders off your bike, lots of variety to please everyone.

Back to the truck, quick snack and back out again, this time to do the enduro deviations.

First enduro deviation would have to have been one of the longest and best I have riden, basically riding through and around a massive land slide that has regenerated with holes, sharp banks, steep drop offs, mud, hard clay, bush weaving and lots of technical bits, was like being thrown into giant sand pit and told to play (double thumbs up from me),

Second enduro loop was up a ridge with a muddy climb and then down into a grassy creek and gully on the other side, riding down the creek with drop offs to each level, great technical section.

Third enduro loop dropped off down a farm track into the gully, then ride up the gully, some lime rock bed to ride over and getting progressively stepper and a greasy climb out at the top, needed a bit of steam on for that one.

Back to the truck, have a late lunch and off for round three, did the enduro deviations again, a little drier by now so I was able to go a little faster to make more fun (still fell off, dam bike), one part did give me brown pants and big eyes but all good.

All in all it was a great ride, fantastic property, brilliant enduro deviations, and spectacular views.

Thanks to Andy Mackintosh for catering for all levels of riders from pee wee track, ATV, main loop and excellent enduro deviations

In short would I ride there again †hell yes

Cheers

Paul

PS, I spoke with Andy and he is going to run another ride at some stage so keep an eye out for it, put it on your bucket list
